Upwell

Yesterday morning we left our overnight mooring on the River Wissey and waited to cross the tidal Great Ouse to the Middle Level. Very high tide on the Ouse; within a foot of the top of the gate at Denver Sluice. The high winds didn't help. The lockkeeper sent the narrow boats out first because of low headroom at Salters Lode lock. However a plastic cruiser insisted on going before us and had a row with the lockkeeper. In the end the lockkeeper let them go. The high north winds combined with the falling tide made the river rough but we managed the tight turn into Salters Lode lock. Crawled on to Upwell and moored by the church. Washed the mud from Denver from Albert's roof. Sent via mobile internet
