Trent and Mersey Lock

The weather on Friday was a little better but still damp. We started the climb up “Heartbreak Hill”. As the day progressed the weather improved. We stopped for lunch at Wheelock, in sunshine, and also filled the water tank. Wheelock flight was straightforward and we quite enjoyed it - just a lot of locks.

Disused and operational locks at Wheelock

Once we got close to the M6 at Hassall Green the first of the heavy showers hit us. We caught up with a hire boat that had broken down under the motorway. They continued ahead of us for the rest of the day. We moored up at Rode Heath on the embankment just by the Broughton Arms. We just had to visit it for our evening meal. It is a popular place on Friday night and was quite busy.
