To Stone (31 March)

On Tuesday when we woke we found Tixall was at its best in bright spring sunshine. This gave us chance to take some photos.

Tixall Wide in Spring Sunshine

We took on water at Great Haywood and provisions at the farm shop.

Great Haywood

As we travelled north the sunshine continued and we managed to stop for lunch near Burston. The scenery along this stretch is very pleasant without being spectacular. We got to Stone by around 4.00PM and moored up just above the Star Inn. We moored in exactly the same spot in 1999 when we were going south.

We ventured into the town for more provisions (they didn't have everything we wanted at the farm shop) and discovered that Terry and Monica Darlington's boat, the Phyllis May, was moored up at the wharf of Canal Cruising Company. Maggie was very pleased to find that the Phyllis May appears to have the same Willam Morris design curtains as Albert.

We ate at the Star Inn. All we can say is that the beer was good.
