Aston Marina, Stone

On Monday we dropped down the two locks from our overnight mooring in Stone and headed for Aston Marina where we are leaving Albert while we take a temporary break at home. The weather was warm, sunny and very windy. Surprisingly, after finding Stone quiet on Sunday, there were a number of boats heading North and a small queue had formed at the bottom of the Stone flight.

We headed into the marina, which is just south of Aston Lock, and moored up on their temporary moorings. After taking on gas and coal we were allocated a visitor mooring with an electric hook-up. I had attempted going into our allocated berth stern first but the strong wind made it difficult so I decided bow first. Later on we saw another boat having great trouble just leaving its moorings.

The marina has superb facilities. It has a farm shop well-stocked with local produce and a bistro that serves great quality food. We just had to sample both. The bistro was quite busy even on a Monday lunchtime.

A taxi ride after lunch took us to the station and an hour and a half later we were in Milton Keynes. We will return later in the week and continue our journey south.
